ANTIGO, WI (WSAU) – The former treasurer from the Town of Ackley has been sentenced to jail time and probation for stealing cash.
Gary Keiper, 70 was sentenced December 20 in Langland County court. He’ll spend 9 months in jail, and will be on probation for 7 years.
A town board member reported that funds were missing in the fall of 2023. Keiper resigned as treasurer the day that an investigation began. He’d been treasurer for more than 25 years, and was the only person who signed checks on the town’s behalf.
Keiper was also the treasurer for the Langland County Rural Fire Control. It is believed that some of their funds are also missing.
Prosecutors say Keiper took more than $300,000. He has already paid restitution. If he violates his terms of probation, he’ll be incarerated for an additional five years.
