WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Voting is open for the Wausau Softball Club’s “Name the Team” contest.
The team spent the past week gathering suggestions and narrowing the list to eight prospective names. Fans will vote in eight head-to-head matchups. Among the names included are Northern Lights, Snow Dragons, Curd Crushers, Rush, White Tails, Aspens, and Timber Titans.
Everyone who votes will be entered into a drawing for two season tickets for next year’s inaugural season.
For now, the team is known as the Wausau Softball Club. They join four other Northwoods League softball teams including the La Crosse Steam, Madison Night Mares, Mankato Habaneros, and Minot Honey Bees.

The team will operate like the Wausau Woodchucks. College softball players who are still eligible will come to Wausau and stay with host families while playing a 42-game regular season.
Games will be played at Athletic Park. At the end of the regular season, the team with the best record will be named the champion. Last year Manakto took the title with a 31-11 record.
No other expansion clubs have been announced for the second season of softball.
