TOWN OF GRAND RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the death of a woman during a welfare check on Sunday.
Officers were called to a home on Kellner Road in the Town of Grand Rapids at 11:40 PM. The first officers to arrive described her as “uncooperative” and called for backup.
Additional units from Wisconsin Rapids and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist, and the woman was taken into custody. She became unresponsive and was rushed to a local hospital where she died.
No further information about her death has been released. No officers fired their service weapons during the incident, and all wore body cameras.
All officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. They are all cooperating with the investigation.
