TOWN OF BRIGHTON, WI (WSAU) — The remains of a woman last seen in the fall of 2020 have been recovered, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Officials say human remains were found on November 30th on private property near CTH P and Abe Lincoln Road in the Town of Brighton, near Stratford. It’s unclear what led investigators to Ayon’s remains.
“My heart goes out to Cassandra’s family and friends,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul in a press release. “Thank you to everyone who has worked to get justice and help provide answers in this appalling case.”
“This case has been on our minds for years,” added Clark County Sheriff Scott Haines. “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Cassandra Ayon.”
Ayon’s former boyfriend, Jesus Contreras Perez, was found guilty of stalking and killing her at trial in June 2022 and is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
No further information has been released.
