MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers have made a change to a key coaching position following the team’s 16-13 loss to top-ranked Oregon on Saturday night.
According to a press release from head coach Luke Fickell, offensive coordinator Phil Longo has been dismissed from the program after two seasons. The Badgers’ offense struggled during Longo’s tenure after managing to score 20 or more points in just one game this season and only twice in 2023.
“This morning, I informed Phil Longo that he will no longer serve as our offensive coordinator. After continuing to evaluate the program, I decided we are not where we need to be and believe this decision is in the best interest of the team. I appreciate Phil’s commitment to helping us build our program over the past two seasons and wish him well moving forward. This team still has a lot in front of us and I am committed to doing everything we can to close out this season with success,” Fickell’s statement read.
Longo’s offense, through 12 games this season, ranked No. 91 in the nation for total offense (363.1 yards per game) and No. 98 for scoring offense. Fickell did not state if he or another coach will take over the offensive play-calling for the remainder of the season.
