STATE COLLEGE, PA (WSAU) — A three-point night from Sawyer Scholl helped the Badger men’s hockey team to a 5-4 win over nationally-ranked Penn State on Friday.
Daniel Laatsch scored the game winner in overtime. Scholl scored twice and added an assist.
Ryland Mosley and Ryan Botterill also scored for the Badgers. Tommy Scarfone was busy in net making 32 saves, 14 of those came in the second period alone.
The win lifts Wisconsin to third place in the Big Ten standings with eight points. The same two teams will play again today at the Pegula Ice Arena.
Meanwhile the Badger women got down early but scored four unanswered to defeat Ohio State 4-2 in WCHA play. Lacey Eden recorded two goals, including a power play goal in the 3rd.
Eden also assisted on an empty-netter by Caroline Harvey in the final minute.
Ava McNaughton made 31 saves. Nearly half (15) came in the 3rd period.
Wisconsin and Ohio State conclude their two-game weekend set this afternoon.
