MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) โ Marshfield Police are calling a series of calls regarding a student in mental crisis a case of swatting.
Officers were called to Marshfield High School on Wednesday after a student allegedly made comments about committing an act of violence at the school. Then about 20 minutes later, dispatchers took another call saying that the same student had stabbed someone at a home outside of Marshfield.
Officers rushed to both the home and the school, and Administrators made the call to put the school on a soft lockdown. The student was found off-campus, and investigators quickly determined that none of the threats were credible.
Both the Wood County Sheriffโs Office and Marshfield Police Department are investigating the incident, calling it a โpublic safety issue.โ
Itโs unclear what charges, if any, could be filed in the matter. No further information will be released at this time.
