GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – When the Minnesota Vikings come to Lambeau Field on Sunday to face the Packers, they’ll bring a familiar face back with them that could give Green Bay some issues on the defensive side of the ball.
During his Monday press conference, head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about the issue of stopping one of his “favorite” players and Vikings running back Aaron Jones, saying, “He’s a problem. He looks really good.”
Jones poses a threat to the Packers’ defense, which is ranked 22nd in the NFL against the run. Through the first three games, Jones has totaled 325 total yards on 5.4 yards per rush and two touchdowns on 54 touches.
When NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero asked Jones about his time in Minnesota so far, Jones said joining the Vikings has been a great decision, saying, This is probably some of the most fun I’ve had in my career. Just a great group of guys in that locker room. A great group of coaches that make it fun to come in here and play. Great fans out here. They affected the game many times. I know you’ve seen it. Someone said it was close to 130 decibels in here, which is crazy; I’ve never seen that. Hand-in-hand, everybody has a piece of it.”
Jones also spoke about his return to Lambeau for the first time, saying, “The same as it has been for the last three weeks. One day at a time, focus; don’t make it anything more than it is. It’s a game. When I’m back there, I have gratitude for where I come from and where it all started.”
The Packers chose to sign Josh Jacobs and to release Jones after the two sides could not agree on a restructured contract. So far Jacobs has been very productive for Green Bay, currently ranking sixth in the league in rushing yards at 278 and third in carries at 63, but is yet to find the endzone, which will be difficult again in Week 4 as the Vikings are ranked eighth in the league against the run.
