TWO RIVERS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Two Rivers police department confirmed on Friday evening during a press conference that the remains found in a wooded area last Saturday do indeed belong to missing three-year-old Elijah Vue.
Vue, who had been missing since February 20th, was staying with his mother Katrina Baur’s boyfriend, Jesse Vang, who told investigators that he woke up from a nap before informing the police that Elijah was gone and said Vue had gotten out of the house on his own. Since then, both he and Baur have been accused of child neglect and await upcoming appearances in court.
Local, state, and federal officials were present alongside police during the press conference, and no questions were answered during or after the event.
Last weekend, radio talk show host Dan O’Donnell first reported that Two Rivers investigators located the remains of a small child in a “remote area” near Girl Scout Camp Manitou-Two Rivers, which early indications pointed to belonging to missing three-year-old Elijah Vue. The report further stated that a diaper was found with the skull and other remains, which were confirmed to be human, and authorities worked throughout this week to positively identify the remains.
Since February, investigators offered a $40,000 reward for information leading to the discovery of Vue thanks to additional monies that were obtained through donations. The FBI also offered to contribute $15,000, while Crime Stoppers offered to contribute another $10,000 to the reward.
