WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Mosinee man will serve prison time after pleading no contest to eight different charges as part of a deal to close out more than a dozen open cases.
Court records show Justin Phillips entered the pleas on Thursday in exchange for having numerous other cases and charges dropped. A judge then sentenced him to three years in prison plus another three years on extended supervision with several conditions.
The most recent case against Phillips involved a high-speed chase through Mosinee into Wausau. That incident started when an officer attempted to pull Phillips over for failing to yield, but he speeded off and headed north on US 51/Interstate 39. Officers managed to terminate the chase near the Stewart Avenue exit with spike strips and a PIT maneuver.
Nine charges came from that incident. Phillips’ plea deal drops seven, leaving him to plead no contest to fleeing or eluding an officer and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He will also pay thousands in restitution and fines for other cases including theft of movable property and retail theft.
The deal closes a total of 19 cases and civil forfeiture, or fines, against him.
