RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a pair of crashes this weekend including an ATV incident that killed a four-year-old.
It happened Saturday evening on Rueckert Road in the Town of Pelican. Officers said three children were riding the vehicle when it rolled, trapping a four-year-old child. Witnesses attempted first aid, but the child died at the scene.
It’s unclear if the other children, a nine-year-old and a seven-year-old, sustained injuries. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating the crash.
The second incident was a three-vehicle crash on US 51 near County Road K and Swamp Lake Road. Seven people were injured in that incident including two people who were transported to Aspirus Wausau for their injuries. Others were taken to Aspirus facilities in Tomahawk and Rhinelander, another was taken to the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.
The other two were injured but did not require medical transport.
That crash involved a northbound vehicle waiting to turn off of 51 onto Swamp Lake Road. A second vehicle struck it from behind, forcing it into the southbound lanes, where it was struck by the third vehicle.
