TIGERTON, WI (WSAU) – In a press release by Tigerton Police Chief Michael Weatherwax, a Tigerton OHV Park and Campground employee located two individuals who crashed into a tree while riding an ATV designed for only one rider. The result of the crash left one person dead, and the other suffered serious injuries.
The call came Saturday morning around 8:30 A.M after the employee found the two individuals. First responders were dispatched to the scene and began CPR. The riders of the ATV were not wearing helmets and alcohol is believed to be a factor. The off-road vehicle was also not registered.
One of the riders was taken to Shawano Thedacare Medical Center and Aspirus Medivac airlifted the other to a trauma center.
With the crash being ATV-related, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was called in and is the primary investigation agency for the accident.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Wisconsin DOT assisted with the crash. Tigerton Area Ambulance, Tigerton Fire Department, Tigerton Police Department, Shawano Ambulance Service, and Aspirus Medivac also accompanied the incident.
The names of the individuals involved in the crash have not been released.
