MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — At the Capitol in Madison, discussions are underway on the future of the UW – System.
Former Vice President for Administration James Langdon is open to the idea of spinning UW – Madison off from the rest of the system.
“Is there a different model that might serve us better as a state in terms of how we use our resources? How we educate students? And how we support our communities and businesses going forward?” said Langdon. “A review of the system merger I think is important.”
Former UW Regent Robert Atwell said stakeholders need to be proactive.
“We have a tremendous opportunity to step back, look, and instead of letting life happen to us, and being left with decisions that appear to be sort of bad and worse, I’d love to see a stake out and bold, creative, confident vision for the future the UW system to serve the state for the long term,” said Atwell.
A study committee of lawmakers, business representatives, educators and local officials heard public comment last week. The Legislative Council Study Committee on the Future of the UW System will meet again August 1.
