MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Avelo Airlines has restarted its non-stop service from the Central Wisconsin Airport to Orlando.
Communications Director Courtney Goff says it’s part of their effort to maintain service to their markets and respond to customer demand. “We take [breaks] to make sure we are matching our demand and to make sure we can maintain our reliability and convenience.”
The flights will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays through August 31st. Avelo will pause the route in September and October before resuming flights in November. Goff says schedules like this are common with “destination” routes. “[There are] different demand times and periods for all destinations. Orlando is obviously really beneficial in the cold months when you want to escape the weather and in the summer when the kids are on vacation.”
Goff adds that they remain in contact with CWA about adding new destinations, but those aren’t decisions that can be made by throwing a dart at the map and seeing where it sticks. “We need to look at destinations where there is that demand [that’s not being met]. Destinations where people have to connect in Chicago or drive somewhere else to get there. We want to make sure we [offer] what will work with the region.
“We always say you and your family of five might enjoy this route, but we are flying 150-190 seat planes and we need to fill those up with more than just a family of five,” added Goff.
They also want more aircraft in their fleet before expanding their service. Goff says they are scheduled to get more planes this summer and fall, but they won’t be in service until they pass safety inspections and get branded with Avelo logos.
Avelo launched at the Central Wisconsin Airport last summer after officials at the facility spent months trying to bring in a low-cost airline to replace United, who discontinued service in early 2022.
The Houston-based carrier serves more than 40 destinations in 25 states and Puerto Rico operating out of regional hubs including Orlando.
