WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The final round of voting is underway for the design that will become Wausau’s 2024 “I Voted” sticker.
City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde says this is the second time they’ve turned to Wausau’s elementary schools to help source ideas for the sticker, which becomes a symbol of civic pride for many each election day.
“We had a handful of youth from local schools in the Wausau School District that submitted designs,” said Bernarde. “Now we’ve put them on our Facebook page so the public can vote on their favorite design.”
Bernarde adds that the contest is much more than a way to let elementary students be creative. She hopes that it gets them engaged in the democratic process at an early age as well. “We want them to know, ‘Hey, elections are happening around you and they are all important.’ Getting in their minds that it’s not just every four years. We have these regularly- at least a couple of times per year.
“We want the youth to know that as well as the adults. Because we do have multiple elections this year,” added Bernarde.
The city conducted a similar contest ahead of the 2022 Governor’s election. Bernarde says this time they’ve included the Village of Rib Mountain in the contest and could consider expanding the program to other municipalities for future years.
You have until midnight Monday to vote. The design with the most likes at that time will be printed and distributed to voters during the August partisan primary and November general election.
Only votes on the post from the official city Facebook page will count. You can see the designs and vote for yourself by clicking below:
