MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – After his wife died unexpectedly, the Marshfield community is showing their support for officer Brody Erickson, and just a day after the tragic loss, the community has raised over $50,000.
After his wife Rodi’s death, the family started a GoFundMe to help Brody pay for the medical and funeral expenses, and to help raise their three kids, all under the age of six. But what happened next, was beyond what most people could have imagined.
They blew passed their goal of $20,000, then 30, then 40, and now, the goal is up to $60,000. Forward Bank in Marshfield is also stepping in to collect funds for the family.
Officer Manager Audra Strasser said, “We were contacted by the police department to set up a memorial fund, so we’re working closely with them, got the fund set up right away so that donations can come in, be local, and all of the proceeds of that fund go to the family.”
She said that times like this are a good opportunity for the community to step up for one of their own, saying, “Any sort of loss, tragedy, everyone feels it, and everyone rallies together. Everyone’s touched by it, whether it’s I know somebody that knows them, or maybe our kids go to school together.”
The impact of Rodi’s death is also being felt outside of the community. Lisa Taylor works at Hunter’s Sports Bar in Waupaca County, and knew the family after working with Brody on the New London Police Department.
She said she would donate all of her tips from Saturday to help the family out. Taylor said,
“Losing a person is extremely difficult, and I can’t imagine how hard this is going to be for Brody to move forward without Rodi. I don’t know how to help him, and this is the only way that I know I can help.”
