STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A 21-year-old Stevens Point man is suspected of intentionally setting two fires in a home located just a few blocks from the UWSP Campus.
The first fire was reported at about midnight Friday. That one was extinguished by one of the residents in the home. Investigators found the second fire on a different level and were able to extinguish it.
No significant damage to the building or injuries were reported. Only one resident was in the building at the time, though officers observed a second resident leaving the area as they arrived.
Investigators determined that he was the suspect and arrested him the next day. He has been identified as Eric Blum. He’s being held in the Portage County Jail for one count of arson and recklessly endangering safety. Court action against him is pending.
Investigators haven’t released a motive for the incident.
Court records show Blum is also facing misdemeanor charges for battery and disorderly conduct that were filed on March 12th. He had been free on a $250 cash bond, his next hearing in that case is set for May 13th.
