MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Following the Milwaukee Brewers series sweep over the New York Mets, Brewers players are comparing top prospect Jackson Chourio to other MLB stars they’ve played against, and some big names came up.
According to MLB.com, Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins, who has played against the Atlanta Braves many times in his career, had one name that came to mind: “If I’m having to pull something off the top of my head, A young Acuña. I know that’s a pretty easy comparison, but when Acuña came up, he was this really twitchy, athletic kid, but so smooth. He still had some learning to do about the game and hitting; obviously, he’s evolved into a monster now. But with the raw tools, I think you can squint a little bit and see Acuña there.”

Shortstop Willy Adames gave a similar answer, saying, “So far, I think he’s maybe like Acuña. Just because of the speed, and he’s so young. The speed, the ability to hit, and the way they play the game: fast. They look comfortable—at a very young age.” However, closer Abner Uribe disagrees with the Acuna comparison, throwing out another star name and saying, “He’s like Julio (Rodriguez). The energy that Julio plays with, Chourio plays like that. Chourio plays hard every day, he has really good focus, and he’s ready every day. I think that Julio plays like that every day, too.”

Chourio is coming off a strong weekend (5-for-12, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) against the Mets, which will bring a lot of buzz to the Brewers’ home opener against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. He said being compared to those stars is an honor. “You have to follow that example there. I definitely hope that I can hit some homers and steal some bags. Try to follow their example the best I can,” Chourio said.
The pregame against the Twins will begin on WSAU at 2:40 p.m., with the first pitch coming at 3:10 p.m. and Jakob Junis getting the start for Milwaukee, while Minnesota will start Louie Varland.
