ARBOR VITAE, WI (WSAU) — A former teacher in the Lakeland Union school system accused of possessing child pornography will not be tried this month as previously scheduled.
Lucas Aschbrenner was scheduled for trial next week, but after a series of motion hearings that’s been pushed back to mid-August. The 46-year-old is accused of having multiple images of child pornography linked to one of his online accounts. Police received a tip about the potential images in January of 2023, leading to a search of his home two months later.
A trial had been scheduled for March 19th through the 21st. That’s been pushed back to August 13th-15th.
No specific reason for the change was mentioned in online court records.
Aschbrenner faces up to 50 years in prison and thousands in fines if found guilty. He is free on a $25,000 cash bond but must stay in either Oneida or Vilas Counties and isn’t allowed access to the internet.
Another motion hearing will be held on May 3rd. A final pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 16th.
