WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County Health Department is working to confirm the vaccination status of a dog that bit a teen that was out for a run in Wausau on Wednesday.
The incident happened at about 4:45 Wednesday when the boy was running near North Burek Avenue and East Campus Drive. The boy was part of a group of Wausau East Track athletes who were out for a run after school.
The dog and its owner were out for a walk and had just been passed by the runners. The owner lost control of the dog as it jumped to bite the boy in the hip, tearing through clothing and skin.
According to the group, the dog appeared to be a German shepherd. Its owner was described as a middle-aged woman with brown hair, possibly wearing leggings and a tan or brown sweatshirt. Anyone with information on the dog and its owner should contact the Health Department at 715-261-7792.
Health officers want to confirm that the dog’s rabies vaccinations are up-to-date. If not, the teen will have to go through a series of rabies shots.
