WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Both sides have made their case in the Umberto Lo homicide trial.
Court records show the State rested its case at about 3 PM Wednesday, paving the way for Lo’s defense team to take over Thursday. They made their case after just three witnesses were called.
Records show two additional witnesses were questioned before the jury recessed. Judge LaMont Jacobson held a jury instruction conference before the court was adjourned for the day.
The trial now moves on to closing arguments and jury deliberations, which could begin as soon as Friday. The case has been scheduled to run through January 31st.
Lo is accused of killing Mai Rue Vang, his former girlfriend, in the spring of 2021 at her Wausau home. If found guilty he faces a mandatory life sentence.
