WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A popular mental health awareness event is set to be held this Saturday at the Central Wisconsin Convention & Expo Center.
Through a New Lens is a free-entry event that will include several family-friendly activities, such as a local youth photography exhibition, face painting, and a scavenger hunt. The event will also feature a special guest, the department’s new Crisis Assessment Response Team’s dog, Bodhi.
Kids will be able to see fire trucks and other safety vehicles, win prizes, and take a ride in a go-cart simulator.
Marathon County Sheriff Chad Billeb spoke about the event and its importance, saying, “One part of our goal is to bring more awareness to the issue of mental health needs, to eliminate the stigma behind getting help, and to make it a fun day for families to come out and while the kids are learning, the parents are learning to.”
The event is sponsored by Dani’s Journey, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, and the Women’s Community and will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.
