MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Mosinee Mayor Brent Jacobson says it was a good year for his city.
At the top of that list is a brand-new hotel and a new direct flight to Orlando from the Central Wisconsin Airport. He says when things like that happen, the whole city benefits. “We’re thrilled that Avelo saw the opportunity because the demand is here. We have quite a few people in and around Central Wisconsin that travel. They have those two flights a week, and the rumor is they are looking at adding some other locations if this is successful and from what I’ve heard it has been,” said Jacobson. “It’s a direct flight, you don’t have to worry about missing a tight connection or sitting in an airport for hours when you should be enjoying your vacation.”
Avelo’s early data showed travelers from every corner of Wisconsin were utilizing the flight and even some from the upper peninsula of Michigan. He says every one of those travelers got to experience the convenience of CWA, meaning they may consider using it for other flights on Delta or American Airlines. “They don’t have to deal with driving into a larger city and paying more to park.”
As for the hotel, he says the first six months of data has looked promising for the city and nearby businesses. “You know when you’re [staying somewhere] you want to grab a bite to eat or maybe a beer or cocktail. Those restaurants and bars that have joined us downtown are going to reap those benefits.”
Jacobson says he doesn’t expect they’ll be shopping for another new hotel property anytime soon. However, if a developer would be interested in such a project, the city is willing to listen. He does say a conference center is on their long-term plan, possibly on a plot of land near CWA.
