WESCOTT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A 78-year-old man was discovered dead on Lulu Lake in Shawano County after failing to return home from ice fishing on Christmas Eve.
Due to the darkness, recovery activities were delayed and resumed on Monday morning. According to a news release from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, the missing guy was discovered dead in the lake on Christmas Day.
The announcement also said that the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:30 p.m. Sunday from concerned family members of a missing ice fisherman. The 78-year-old man had gone ice fishing on Lulu Lake in Shawano County and his truck was near a boat landing, and ice fishing equipment could be seen on the lake.
Deputies from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office and the Shawano Area Fire Department discovered an open hole in the ice near the fishing equipment and rescue efforts failed to recover the man at the time.
