RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Ice conditions remain thin.
One person found that out the hard way on Friday, leading to a water rescue event for the SAFER and Wausau Fire Department. According to SAFER, they were called to the Bluegill Bay boat landing at noon on Friday for a report of someone who had broken through ice and fallen into the water.
Rescue workers found the victim about 100 feet offshore. They managed to get them into an airboat and back to safety.
The victim was sent to a local hospital for a checkup. No update on their condition has been given.
