WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution against further COVID-19-related mandates or lockdowns from the state.
District 29 Supervisor Chris Dickenson said he’s supporting the measure because he doesn’t want to see someone be forced to get tested or be sent home from work just for coming into the office while they are somewhat ill. “There should be no requirement for them to have forced testing, [forced to] mask, or forced isolation in their home.”
Dickenson noted that forced isolation could impact their ability to make money in some circumstances.
District 16’s Tony Sherfinski noted that anyone who wants to take precautions such as wearing a mask in public or getting a vaccine will still be free to do so. He also acknowledged that the document does not come with any action, but does express the desire of the board.
“Do whatever you feel makes sense for you and makes you feel comfortable; what you think will protect your health, life, and safety. We are telling our state officials that we are not going to accept an unconstitutional state mandate going forward,” said Sherfinski.
Supervisors did vote to amend the resolution to change some of the language before approving it by a wide margin.
The resolution was the subject of nearly 90 minutes of discussion and debate during last Thursday’s informational meeting. Nearly 20 residents provided public input, and several also provided comments during a Health and Human Services Committee meeting on the issue earlier this month.
The measure will now be sent to the Department of Health Services and local lawmakers in Madison.
