WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Investigators with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office are putting out another call for information regarding a missing Weston woman.
Tara Sullivan was last seen in mid-April. Captain of Investigations Jeff Stefonek says they’ve received one or two tips a week regarding her disappearance, but so far nothing has been able to crack the case open. “We appreciate [those tips] because you never know when you’re going to get the tip that breaks open the case,” said Stefonek. “We continue to ask that if someone knows something that we don’t already know, they see Tara, or they come across information that would lead us to her that they let us know.”
Captain Stefonek adds that he doesn’t think they are any closer to finding her than when officers found her cell phone in the Town of Ringle. When officers tried to return it to her at her Weston home they discovered “suspicious circumstances,” including damage to her garage door caused by a vehicle backing out with the door in the closed position and scattered items throughout the house.

Her vehicle was later found along Highway 29 in Shawano County. Stefonek says they conducted multiple ground and drone searches in the area where they found the vehicle, but those have been unsuccessful. There is one piece of evidence that could provide valuable information that they haven’t been able to search yet- her phone. “We have it, but it’s locked in such a way that doesn’t allow us to access the data on it yet. But the forensic tool that we use to get into electronic devices [is continually updated.] Each new update [may allow us] access to that device.
“We’re hoping that will be the next big break in the case,” added Stefonek.
Stefonek says the case remains an active investigation and anyone who thinks they know something should call the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office at 715-261-1200, option 5, to speak with an investigator. If you see Tara or know of her whereabouts, please call 9-1-1 so that law enforcement can verify her safety.
