COLOMA, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A wildfire near Coloma is nearly contained roughly 24 hours after it started.
The fire broke out on Monday near Cumberland Avenue and Highway 21 in Waushara County. By Tuesday morning it was 99% contained and is continuing to burn an area of about 400 acres.
The fire has damaged more than a dozen structures. Eight firefighters have been treated for injuries and released while working the flames.
The Northeast District Incident Management Team has been activated, and the command post has been set up at the Coloma Fire Department. Waushara County emergency management, along with local law enforcement agencies and several other fire departments, are also on the scene.
The fire was caused by debris burning.
