WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The Wood County District Attorney has announced that there will be no charges filed against a law enforcement officer who shot and killed William F. Voelker back in April.
DA Craig Lambert made the announcement on Friday after reviewing the results of the State Department of Justice investigation.
The incident occurred on April 21st when the officer made contact with someone who was walking on the street near 32nd Street S and Airport Avenue in the Town of Grand Rapids. That person, later identified as Voelker, pulled a handgun and pointed it at the officer.
The officer then fired their weapon and struck the person. Officers rendered first aid, but Voelker died at the scene.
According to the DOJ, a total of four law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation, and all officers who were involved did cooperate.
