NEW YORK, NY (WSAU) – The Aaron Rodgers blockbuster deal is now official.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback was introduced to the New York media on Wednesday afternoon and got a tour of the Jet’s facility.
When asked what it’s like to be no longer a Packer he said, “It’s a surreal day for me after spending 18 years in the same city…that chapter is over now. I’m excited about the new adventure here.”
The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman questioned Rodgers why he never returned Packers GM Brian Gutekunst’s “many” attempts to reach him this offseason, and Rodgers replied, “I don’t know if I really need to get into specifics. I will say to people that know me, I’m fortunate to live in a beautiful house, the only downside is I have very limited cell service. So if you want to get ahold of me, I have to see your face.”
In a press release issued this morning, Packers President Mark Murphy stated, “We wish Aaron well in New York and look forward to welcoming him back to Green Bay to retire his No. 12, celebrate his induction into the Packers Hall of Fame, and unveil his name on the Lambeau Field façade.”
Brett Farve, a Hall of Famer and former teammate of Aaron Rodgers, told ESPN this morning, “Aaron will do great!!!!” Favre wrote Wednesday in a text message “He will handle the transition as well as anyone. (He’s a) very smart and instinctive person, on and off the field. In other words, you’re not going to catch him by surprise very often.”
A tribute video was also posted on the team’s official Twitter account.
