WAUSAU (WSAU) — Ronnie Lofton Jr. was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his infant son on Thursday.
The 41-year-old former Wausau man was on day six of his trial and the jury only needed to deliberate for 3 hours before coming to their verdict. He will now face a life sentence with the opportunity for parole to be decided by the judge on a later date.
The infant had shown significant injuries including retinal hemorrhaging, a suspected skull fracture and multiple bruises. His mother rushed him to a local hospital after she found him unresponsive. Doctors rushed him to Marshfield Children’s due to the extent of the injuries, where he was placed on life support but later died.
Lofton has an extensive criminal background including battery and burglary charges convictions and has a long rap sheet in multiple counties including Marathon, Brown and Kenosha counties.
Sentencing is yet to be set and a pre-sentencing investigation will be needed.
