WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids manufacturing plant will close, leaving 70 people out of work.
According to a letter filed with the Department of Workforce Development, Sonoco will be shutting down its facility on Fremont Street. Layoffs are expected to impact about 70 workers and will begin by next March.
Tuesday’s announcement comes about one month after the company said they would discontinue their tube and core operations.
The filing also states that many of the workers that will be impacted are union workers, and will have bumping rights.
According to the company’s website, Sonoco does have several other locations in Wisconsin including the Wausau, Green Bay, and Fox Valley areas.
