It’s going to be a busy day at Wausau City Hall on Tuesday.
In addition to an update regarding the possible financing mechanisms for a granular activated carbon filtration system in the city’s new drinking water treatment plant, which were previewed as part of this week’s Mayors Monday with Katie Rosenberg, there will also be a couple of big decisions for the city’s economic development committee.
That includes a closed session on possible action regarding uncured violations in the latest developers’ agreement for the Riverlife Condo project put forward by the Ohde, Viegut, and Riveron group which also developed the Riverlife apartment complex nearby. This comes after a third amendment to the condo development was approved four months ago, which called for closing on the property to occur by November 1st and construction to begin no later than April 1st, 2023.
The project has been delayed several times. The original development agreement called for completion by June 30th, 2022. Two prior amendments to the original development agreement called for completion by July and November of 2023.
According to the language for Tuesday’s closed session, the committee could consider termination of the developer’s agreement. The committee did make it clear that after the developers were running out of goodwill with city leaders. Alder Lisa Rasmussen spoke on the record, saying she was at the end of her rope with the project. “We agreed that we are going to build condos together and we need to get it going. I’m hoping we don’t see a fourth amendment.”
The committee will also take up potential changes to development and user agreements with the Wausau Woodchucks franchise to allow for the possibility of a summer collegiate softball team.
Again, both meetings will occur at City Hall. The Water Works Commission meeting is at 1:30 PM, and Economic Development is set to meet at 5:15.
