MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Officials with the United Soccer League and the City of Milwaukee gathered to announce that the Cream City has been awarded a USL Championship franchise.
The team will begin play in the 2025 season in the Iron District Stadium, an 8,000-seat venue that will serve as the anchor for a new housing and commercial development. The stadium will also serve as the home for Marquette University’s soccer and lacrosse programs.
The facility will also include an indoor concert venue.
The team will compete in the second tier of men’s professional soccer in the United States behind Major League Soccer. The club will also compete against MLS sides in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup competition, a single-elimination tournament featuring all professional and amateur men’s teams in the United States
Kacmarcik Enterprises will be the majority owner of the club, the same group that owns Forward Madison FC which competes in USL League One, which operates as the third tier of men’s soccer.
A name-the-team contest is underway at www.milwaukeeprosoccer.com. The team is also taking season ticket deposits through merchandise sales.
The USL Championship features 27 teams and is slated to add three clubs over the next three seasons as well.
