WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A judge in Wood County has determined there is enough evidence to move first-degree murder charges against Donald Maier forward.
The 60-year-old is accused of killing Benny Scruggs back in 1985 when the two were neighbors in a Wisconsin Rapids trailer park. Maier is said to have snuck into Scruggs’ home and stabbed him in his bedroom.
During a court appearance on Monday, witnesses testified that Maier admitted to killing Scruggs and having a sexual relationship with his wife to other inmates while he was serving time for unrelated charges.

Maier is in the Racine Correctional Institution serving a sentence for an unrelated stalking charge. He skipped an initial appearance two weeks ago by refusing to leave his cell but did submit a letter into the record for the case. He’ll return to court on October 6th for an arraignment.
