WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Woodchucks started the series with a win against the Madison Mallards 8-5.
With a tied score going into the ninth inning, Tyler Cox (Eckerd College) walked off the game with a home run over the right field fence. Cox drove in three runs for his team.
Chase Hug (University of Evansville) went two for three with a double and two RBI.
Carter Heninger (San Jose State University) earned the win on the mound, throwing the last inning with two strikeouts giving up no hits. The Woodchucks had seven hits with only one error to earn the win.
Wausau plays at Madison tonight.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters took down the Lakeshore Chinooks 11-6.
The Rafters struck first with a home run by Chase Call (University of California, Irvine) in the bottom of the first inning. Call earned Northwoods League Player of the Night with two home runs and five RBI. Brendan Bobo (California State University, Fullerton) also had a great offensive night going three for four with two doubles, a home run and two RBI.
Aiden Brewer (Hillsdale College) reached base twice with a home run and two RBI scoring twice. Malakai Vetock (Creighton University) earned the win throwing three innings with four strikeouts allowing one run to score.
