Dan Willison
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man found guilty of running into a police officer with his car, then leading officers on a high-speed chase will serve 11.5 years in prison.
Dan Willison will also serve five years of extended supervision as part of Judge Michael Moran’s orders given on Friday for one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Upon release, he will also be required to install an ignition lock device in any vehicles registered to him and will have his driver’s license revoked for three years.
Willison was also sentenced for various other charges in connection with the incident. Those will run concurrently to the 11.5-year sentence.
Charges stem from a 2019 incident in which police approached Willison’s vehicle as he was parked at an Abbotsford Motel. Willison then drove into the officer, who was able to hang on to the hood of the vehicle.
He then shot at Willison, hitting him in the chest before he fell off the car as Willison drove off. The vehicle was later found abandoned along Highway 29, with Willison found hiding in a nearby corn field with a gunshot wound.
Officers were able to arrest him and take him to a hospital for treatment and a blood draw, which showed a BAC of .18.
The 58-year-old was given credit for one year already served in jail while awaiting trial and sentencing.
One count against Willison was dismissed outright. That was a charge of operating a vehicle with a prohibited blood alcohol content.
