MARATHON CITY, WI (WSAU) — Village leaders in Marathon City have announced that their drinking water shows no PFAS-related risks following testing in late April.
Village Administrator Andy Kurtz released a statement on Thursday saying they participated in voluntary testing through the Wisconsin DNR which showed no detectable levels of 17 different compounds related to PFAS, and microscopic amounts of another compound.
The detected compound registered at 0.4 parts per trillion. Overall, the village’s hazard index score was 0.03, well below the state’s threshold for action which is set at 1.
No action by village residents is recommended. “The results of the PFAS testing are very positive and are significantly below the DHS, DNR and EPA health advisory levels,” said Village President David Belanger. “As a customer of the Marathon City Water Utility, there is no action you need to take. You can simply continue to enjoy the clean water supplied by the Marathon City Water Utility.”
