WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Man of Honor Society is conducting its 13th annual ham giveaway for Veterans and active-duty military personnel this Saturday in Marathon Park.
John Fust with the Man of Honor Society says there are no income requirements to get the ham, and the only question asked will be ‘have you or are you currently serving in the military?’ “We are just thanking our local Vets for what they have done and what they have sacrificed. Specially over the holidays,” said Fust.
The hams will be distributed in a drive-through manner in Marathon Park beginning at 9 AM. Vets are being asked to enter the park from the Garfield Street entrance and proceed through one of three lanes for distribution. Last year some were lining up as early as 7 AM to get the goods.
Anyone wishing to cash in on the free food must show an acceptable military ID- that includes a DD Form 214, current military ID, or VA ID card. Additionally, the Vet or active-duty military person must be in the vehicle to receive the ham. There may also be some turkeys to giveaway as well.
Fust says in 2020 they gave out some 700 hams in less than an hour. This year they’ll have 750, and he expects them to go just as quickly.
