WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — During Marathon County’s Public Safety Committee Meeting on Wednesday, an agenda item highlighted the usage of body cameras.
Marathon County Chief Deputy Chad Billeb informed the committee that following a budget approval for 2021, cameras have been implemented on every uniformed deputy, squad cars, and across several other units within the department.
Chief Deputy Billeb also said the Marathon County Jail is set to go live with its new cameras on December 7.
“We will be one of a handful of jails in the state that use body cameras, but we believe that’s the wave of the future and there’s an expectation that they be there,” Chief Deputy Billeb said. “We want to get ahead of that so they will also be in our jail.”
He also mentioned no financial impact on the department due to other cost-saving methods and saved funds.
