MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The University of Wisconsin system has announced a plan to incentivize COVID-19 vaccinations among students called “70 for 70.”
The plan will offer 70 scholarships valued at $7,000 each to students on campuses where vaccination rates are at 70% or higher by October 15th.
“As we welcome students back to campus this fall, we want their experience to be as normal and safe as we can make it,” Thompson said. “That means students should get vaccinated, and we will incentivize it knowing that high vaccination rates are critical to our success. The ‘70 for 70’ campaign is key to helping our universities achieve higher vaccination rates, especially in the face of the looming threat the Delta variant poses.”
Should a campus not reach the 70% threshold by October 15th, the scholarships allotted to their campus will be redistributed to those that have qualified.
The Madison campus is not included in the 70 for 70 contest.
Campuses that reach the 70% vaccination mark will also win $5,000 for their student government.
Thompson notes that vaccines will not be required for students this fall. Many UW campuses are also planning their own vaccine incentive programs.
