PORT EDWARDS, WI (WSAU) — A police call about a driver passed out behind the wheel of a car in Wood County lead to a chase that crossed county lines and ended with an injury crash in Port Edwards.
Wood County Sheriff’s Officials received the initial call at around 4 PM Friday about a vehicle parked near Kimball Ave and Highway 173. While officers didn’t find the vehicle right away, they did catch up with it later in the Nekoosa area.
Officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver took off, leading to a 37-mile chase that crossed into Juneau County. The chase ended when the driver crashed on private property in Port Edwards, causing minor injuries to both passengers.
Charges of OWI-causing injury, fleeing an officer, possession of meth, recklessly endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon, and multiple traffic citations are now being recommended against the occupants of the vehicle.
The passengers were identified as 38-year-old Lisa Hakes of Nekoosa and Dylan Hildebrandt, 37, unknown address. They were both taken into custody after receiving medical treatment. It’s not clear who was behind the wheel.
