WESTON, WI (WSAU) — An event honoring the impact of former D.C. Everest teacher, football coach, and track coach Wayne Steffenhagen will be held on July 24th.
Todd Bohm, who’s been working to organize the event for some time now, says they wanted to provide a fitting tribute to the man who impacted so many young lives over the years.
“He was such a great community person, outstanding teacher, and outstanding coach,” said Bohm. “We just felt like it really needed to happen [this way,] we needed to celebrate the life and everything he did for the community in so many ways.”
The service will include speakers from both the school and the Steffenhagen family. There will be a short video and remembrances from former players and students as well.
The celebration of life begins with a social gathering at 5 PM on July 24th. That will be followed by the formal service at 7, taking place at Steffenhagen Field at Stiehm Stadium on the D.C. Everest campus. Bohm says attendees are encouraged to either wear Everest green and gold, or an old Evergreens football jersey if they have one.
The event will also be live-streamed through Zaleski Sports and Bohm adds they are considering other ways for those who can’t attend to share their stories about Coach.
Steffenhagen died in Febraury. Family members held a private service at that time but held off on plans for a larger celebration due to COVID-19 restrictions. Bohm adds they felt it was important to allow as many people as possible to pay their respects to the Steffenhagen family.
The event will be free and open to all.
