WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — For the first time in over a year local hotel properties are looking at filled rooms nearly every weekend.
“Any event that happens downtown we want to be part of and be known with so when you have Chalkfest or you have the music on the Square or any event such as that we are knee deep in it. We want everybody to know that we’re here, we’re here for Wausau and for the people,” Jefferson Street Inn sales and marketing director Christopher Stamm told WAOW TV.
General Manager Carla Baker said between having two events in the Wausau area and two wedding parties this weekend, things are looking much different financially than they were last year at this time.
“When you look at our weekends we’re sold out so we’re doing OK. I think we’re almost at the end of it. We’re on the other side of a challenge,” she said.
This weekend brought the return of the Hodag Country Music Festival to Rhinelander along with Wausau’s inaugural Taste n’ Glow Balloon festival, and event born out of the cancelation of Wausau Events’ Balloon and Rib Fest. Wausau’s Downtown Chalk Festival and Sidewalk Sales also returned Saturday, bringing chalk artists to the 400 Blook to create their art.
Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point have also seen their signature events return this summer in Cranberry Blossom Festival and Riverfront Rendezvous, respectively.
