PITTSVILLE, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — Several Fourth of July traditions are returning to Pittsville this year, brought to you by the city’s American Legion and Lions Club.
Beginning on Saturday it’s the “Heart and Sole Road Race” with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. For kids 10 years old and younger, there is no registration or fee. The kids’ quarter-mile race starts at 6:15, with adults running at seven. The competition is sponsored by the Pittsville Fire Department and EMS, and Chief Jerry Minor.
Minor tells WDLB radio that the highlight of the weekend will be a large parade starting at noon. He says you’ll start to see lawn chairs out the night before saving all the best spots along the route. The event takes off at noon.
This year’s theme is “one flag-one nation” and prizes will be given out to the floats best depicting the theme.
The parade traditionally includes a bagpiper but Minor says they were unable to book that act this year. Instead, this year’s event will feature a stilt walker and a Mariachi band.
The warm-up act for the parade will be the kiddie parade beginning at 11:30.
After the parade there will be activities in Riverside Park leading up to a fireworks show at dusk.
