MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – More information has been released about an early morning fire in Merrill.
According to a press release from Merrill Fire Chief Josh Klug, Merrill Fire and EMS was dispatched for report of a structure fire at Lincoln Wood Window Plants just after 6 a.m. When on the scene, firefighters found smoke coming out of a 3rd floor window.
The firefighters used a ground ladder to get up to the 3rd floor. Once a window was able to be opened on the third floor for ventilation, crews were able to extinguish the fire.
The fire was reported immediately by an employee when they arrived to work on Tuesday morning. The early response saved the building from major damage. Officials believe the fire was started by a lighting strike from a morning storm in the area.
Firefighter helmet camera footage from the incident is available for viewing on the Merrill Fire Department’s YouTube channel and their Facebook page.
