MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Local residents opinions are wanted regarding legislative maps.
The People’s Map Commission has been holding virtual public hearings regarding the upcoming redistricting of legislative maps throughout the state. The Commission will be holding a hearing for the 7th Congressional District, that encompasses most of Central Wisconsin, at the end of January.
The Commission is requesting that residents of the 7th District submit public input on the matter before the meeting at 5:30 p.m. on January 28th. The deadline to resgister for public comment is 5 p.m. on January 26th. Those who would like to testify before the Commission are required to register in advance at the People’s Map Commission website.
The hearing is the Commission’s fifth of at least eight meetings, one for each one of Wisconsin’s 8 congressional districts. The virtual public hearing will include testimony from subject matter experts and provide Wisconsinites the opportunity to express how they have been affected by legislative redistricting and share their ideas for how Wisconsin can work together to achieve fair maps.
Selected by a three judge panel, the Commission is a nine-member nonpartisan redistricting commission charged with drawing fair, impartial maps for the state of Wisconsin. The People’s Map Commission was established by Governor Evers in the spring of 2020.
