WESTON, WI (WSAU) — A third local municipality has decided to terminate its contract with the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Monday evening the Village of Weston Board of Trustees went into closed session to discuss their agreement with the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau and their recycling contract. No decision was made in open session on the recycling contract but the Board made a motion to send a letter of termination to the CVB as stated by Trustee Nathan Fiene. “Move to give the Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau a 30-day notice no later than November 30th stating that we will be not renewing our contract with the Bureau.”
The motion was then later amended by Trustee Steve Meinel to send the notice to the Convention and Visitors Bureau immediately instead of waiting until November 30th. The motion and amendment were passed unanimously by the board. Board President Mark Maloney noted the Village planned to send the 30-day notice to the Convention and Visitors Bureau the next day, November 17th.
Several other local municipalities including the Village of Rothschild and the City of Wausau have terminated their contracts with the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Those terminations stem from an incident in July where CVB Executive Director Richard Barrett was accused of improperly collecting room tax money from the online travel site Expedia.
