RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — A former band teacher has been found guilty after being arrested in an online sex sting.
Alex Valentine, 29, was in Oneida County Circut Court for a one-day jury trial. After 7 and a half hours for the trial, the jury came back with guilty verdicts for both counts against Valentine. He will be sentenced for charges of attempting 2nd-degree sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.
Valentine was arrested and accused of sending sexually explicit messages to someone who he thought was a 15-year-old girl in April of 2019 while he was a band teacher with the Crandon School District. Officers say they told Valentine that the “girl” he was talking to was underage on at least three occasions. He was caught on April 1st when he went to a Rhinelander business with the intention of meeting the girl for sex and instead was arrested by officers.
Valentine will be back in court for a sentencing hearing on September 25th.
