TOWN OF AURORA, WI (WSAU) — An eight-year-old child died after stepping into traffic along County Road H in the Taylor County Town of Aurora.
Investigators say the child had run across the road to check the mailbox, which was posted on the east edge of the roadway. As they were crossing back to the west side of the road, they were struck by a northbound vehicle.
The child was thrown into the ditch and died at the scene. No one in the vehicle was injured.
Responding agencies included Taylor and Chippewa County Sheriff’s Officers and police from Gilman and Cornell. The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
No further information has been released. Officers expressed condolences to the family and all involved.
